Canthopexy
Refining The Outer Corner Of The Eyelid
- Improve eyelid shape & symmetry
- Correct mild eyelid laxity or drooping
- Helps refined results after blepharoplasty
The prefix “cantho-” refers to the canthus, which is the corner of the eye where the upper and lower eyelids meet. Each eye has two canthi: the medial canthus, located near the nose, and the lateral canthus, located near the temple.
A canthopexy is a surgical procedure that tightens and supports the lateral canthus (the outer corner of the eyelid) without fully detaching it, enhancing both the appearance and function of the eyes.
This procedure can help:
Unlike canthoplasty, which involves cutting and reconstructing the lateral canthal tendon, canthopexy is less invasive and generally involves a shorter recovery time. This delicate procedure is typically performed under local anaesthetic, often with mild sedation for comfort. In more complex or combined procedures (such as alongside blepharoplasty), general anaesthetic may be recommended for safety and precision.
We recommend booking a consultation with our team to discuss the procedure in detail and determine whether canthopexy is the best option for your goals. Pricing will be confirmed after your consultation, as it will depend on individual factors. Once established, you can expect the surgeon to carefully tighten the lateral canthal tendon to provide support and lift, preserving a natural look during your procedure.
Afterwards, mild swelling or bruising is common for the first 7–10 days. Stitches are typically removed within a week, and most patients feel comfortable returning to normal activities after 10–14 days, depending on their individual healing process. As swelling subsides, results become more visible. Gentle exercise is also typically recommended after 2 weeks (as advised by your surgeon).

Results are long-lasting, although the natural ageing process will continue. Canthopexy can significantly improve eyelid support and eye appearance for many years.
Incisions are small and discreet, usually placed along the natural folds of the eyelid or in hidden areas, so scars are generally imperceptible once healed.
Canthoplasty involves cutting, repositioning, or reconstructing the canthal tendon and surrounding tissues, making it more invasive. Canthopexy, in contrast, is a less invasive procedure where the lateral canthal tendon is tightened without extensive dissection. Canthoplasty is typically used for significant eyelid laxity or aesthetic reshaping, while canthopexy is for minor corrections.
Canthopexy at our clinic in London is often performed alongside lower blepharoplasty for added support and shape refinement.
You may be a good candidate for canthopexy if you have sagging or drooping at the outer corners of the eyes, desire a more almond-shaped or lifted eye contour, need reconstructive correction following blepharoplasty or due to eyelid laxity, and are in good general health with realistic expectations.
