- Brighter, more refreshed appearance
- Smooths & tightens delicate eyelid skin
- Performed in-clinic
The word blepharo comes from Greek blepharon, meaning eyelid. And plasty from the Greek word plassein, meaning to form or to mold. Blepharoplasty, also known as minor eyelid surgery, is a popular way to enhance the overall appearance of the eyes.
At Bodyvie, established in 1999, our experienced surgical team performs both upper and lower blepharoplasty procedures.
These treatments can also be combined for comprehensive eyelid rejuvenation. The eyes are often the first area to show signs of ageing. Over time, loose or drooping upper eyelid skin (dermatochalasis) can make you appear tired or older and, in some cases, may even affect your field of view. An upper blepharoplasty procedure can address this by correcting drooping eyelids to restore a more youthful appearance and, when necessary, improve vision.
Before the procedure, you will receive detailed pre-surgery instructions. We usually advise avoiding smoking and alcohol, pausing certain medications (such as blood thinners) if medically appropriate, and arranging for someone to accompany you home after the procedure.
During your procedure, the surgeon will mark and carefully remove or reposition small areas of excess skin, muscle, and fat to create a smoother, more defined eyelid contour. Incisions are made within the natural crease of the eyelid, so scars are typically minimal and well-hidden once healed. Local anaesthetic is typically used. However, mild sedation is available if needed.
After surgery, mild swelling or bruising is normal and usually resolves within 7–10 days. Stitches are generally removed after about a week, and most patients can return to light daily activities within 1–2 weeks, depending on their individual healing. Gentle exercise is typically recommended after 2 weeks, as advised by your surgeon. Bear in mind, recovery varies from patient to patient.
As the swelling subsides, results become increasingly visible, revealing a refreshed, natural-looking, and more youthful appearance that can last for many years, although the natural ageing process will continue.
A consultation with our team will determine whether this procedure is right for you, your condition, and your aesthetic goals. However, you may be a good candidate for an upper blepharoplasty if you:
If you are considering upper eyelid surgery, schedule a personalised consultation with our expert team at Bodyvie Richmond. During your consultation, we will assess your concerns, explain the procedure in detail, and develop a tailored treatment plan to help you achieve rejuvenated eyes with natural, long-lasting results.
Whether you opt for an upper, a lower, or a combination blepharoplasty, pricing will be confirmed after your consultation, based on your needs.
Discomfort is generally mild. You may feel tightness or soreness for a few days, which can be managed with over-the-counter or prescribed pain relief.
Typically, after 10 to 14 days, once the incisions have fully healed and swelling has reduced, recovery can continue. Recovery varies for each individual. Therefore, you should always wait until the area is completely healed, even if it takes a bit longer than the estimated two weeks.
Scarring is a common concern for patients considering upper eyelid surgery. However, with meticulous surgical technique and appropriate postoperative care, scars are generally minimal and well-concealed. A systematic review published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal (Oxford Academic), which evaluated 3,650 patients across multiple international studies, including groups from North America, Europe, and Asia, reported only 36 cases of hypertrophic scarring, corresponding to approximately 1% of patients. At Bodyvie Richmond, incisions are typically placed within the natural eyelid creases, resulting in scars that are nearly imperceptible once fully healed.
Drooping upper eyelids become more common with age. And while upper eyelid surgery does not stop the natural ageing process, the results are long-lasting, and many patients never require a repeat procedure.
Upper blepharoplasty is a well-established procedure in the UK. During your consultation, we will do a full medical check to make sure the procedure is right for you and go over any potential risks or side effects. Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions closely is key to helping you heal well and get the best results.
