As recently reported in the Evening Standard (21ST October 2013) the government is weeks away from announcing new rules to tighten the regulation of cosmetic surgery and beauty treatments.
“This is long overdue. Medical Aesthetics has been and continues to be unregulated, with many non-medical professionals carrying out procedures.
First and foremost, patient safety is the greatest concern, something that cannot be guaranteed at present, with patients being exposed to greater risk. Many non-medical professionals are going on short courses to learn how to carry out ‘Botox and Dermal Fillers’ and offer treatments from rented rooms, which may not meet standards. In many cases, patients are unaware they are not in experienced or medical hands, which is unacceptable.
The Government needs to implement strict regulation of this industry, so this does not continue. Patients should be able to rest assured that when selecting a cosmetic practitioner, they are in safe, qualified, experienced medical hands.
At Bodyvie, we have always been regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure our premises meet national minimum standards. Furthermore, we have only ever had highly trained doctors carrying out cosmetic treatments.
We will not compromise on patient safety or the quality of treatments. Patients must ensure that they are fully informed when seeking a practitioner for any treatment.
Fingers crossed, this Government move to toughen regulations comes about quickly.
